University of Kentucky basketball legend Sam Bowie will be the guest speaker at St. Catharine College's Circle of Friends for Washington County on Thursday, Nov. 8. The event will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Trackside Barn at Silverton Hill Farm.
Born in Lebanon, Penn., Bowie was a high school standout and was heavily recruited by colleges. He chose the University of Kentucky and has been a household name in Kentucky ever since. Bowie's career at Kentucky was a record-breaking success and many of his records still stand today. After graduating from UK in 1984, Sam also played in the NBA for the Portland Trailblazers, the New Jersey Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers. Bowie lives in Lexington with his family and has also achieved outstanding success in another of Kentucky's great loves – horse racing.
The Washington County Circle of Friends is an annual event that raises funds for St. Catharine College. The chairpersons for this year's event are Ed and Kris O'Daniel. Donations to the Circle of Friends support the annual fund of St. Catharine College. All gifts received will provide the college with vital resources to award student scholarships, recruit quality faculty and staff, maintain and enhance facilities, and equip classrooms with the latest technology.
Ed and Kris have long been supporters and friends of St. Catharine College.
"Sam has long been a proponent of higher education," said Ed. "We are thrilled to welcome him to Washington County. We hope the people of Washington County will come out in full force to welcome Sam and to support St. Catharine College."
