Military Appreciation Day is April 21
Veterans are the focus for the 7th Annual Military Appreciation Day at St. Catharine College on April 21. The day begins at 0700 hours with a 5-K (5 kilometer) Run/Walk at Idle Hour Park sponsored by the City of Springfield and Dr. Dave Donathan's Spring Semester Senior Seminar class. The run winds through Idle Hour Park and historic downtown Springfield, returning to the finish line in the park. Additional information and online registration for the 5-K Run/Walk is at http://www.active.com/running/springfield-ky/military-appreciation-5k-fun-run-walk-2012.
The activities continue on the St. Catharine College campus with a free lunch at 1100 hours, followed by workshops starting at 1300 hours in the Richard S. Hamilton Health and Science Building. Here, veterans will be able to attend sessions on their G.I. Bill and veterans' benefits, hear a presentation on getting an initial teaching credential through the Kentucky Troops to Teachers Program, and find out how many college credits their military training can earn them.
In addition, the day includes events for the entire family, including a Patriot baseball Senior Day doubleheader against the University of Virginia-Wise at 1300 hours at Edelen-Haydon Field and the Central Kentucky Community Theatre's production of Man of La Mancha at the Springfield Opera House at 1900 hours. There will also be informational booths, plus games for kids.
